Head Coach of Burkina Faso Female National Team has stated that this year’s edition of Total Energies Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Morocco 2022, will look at emphasizing on development of women’s football in their country with their participation.

Coach Sawadogo, believes that the WAFCON qualification will serve as a platform for women footballers who find difficulty in pursuing football career in comparison to men in Burkina Faso.

“It is an opportunity for us to show to the world that the girl can play the ball and if we win, it’s very important for us”, he said.

“For us, the first satisfaction will be to play very well because in our country, it is not easy for girls to play football. With the first match, we’ll play very well to show our people that the young girl can play like the young boy, it is our first objective”.

“If we have opportunity to win the Morocco team, okay.

But if you can have 50/50 chance, but our first objective is to play very well. Because the match will pass on our national television, all the population will be preparing at home to see the match of the girl”.

This is the first time Burkinabe Female National Team has qualified for the WAFCON and belong to Group A, involving host country Morocco, Senegale and Uganda.

Their opening game is against Morocco on July 2, 2022, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
