Professor Jane Naana restores hope in Ayawaso North Constituency among women and girls


Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has restored hope and inspired thousands of women and girls in Ayawaso North Constituency at a durbar of Chiefs, Magajias and Market women at maamobi .The event which took place on Tuesday, 10th November, 2020 saw the Running mate of H.E. John Dramani Mahama tours the Ayawaso East and North Constituency to ensure the victory of the national democratic congress for the forthcoming 2020 general election.

The educationist who served as Minister for Education under the administration of President John Mahama, was chosen as the running mate to the flag bearer of the party. Madam Jane, who was the former Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast and the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state University in Ghana was enthusiastically welcomed by the community.
The learned professor was met huge chanting crowd which includes chiefs,imams, community leaders ,organized groups etc. with praises like ‘’Maame oh dende, ’Maame oh dende ’Maame oh dende, Obaatanpa ,Mmankoowa ‘’.
Addressing the cheerful crowd, she called for the need to link technical and vocational education to encourage local production and reduce importation of foreign products.
Adding that, ‘’if people were given adequate training in their fields, they would be able to set up industries, and reduce the high rate of unemployment’.

As a party, she continued’’ the NDC would ensure the training of the youth, who have the capacity in the technical and vocational fields to have the needed background to enable them to produce for these industries a better path to diversify the economy thereby adding value to Ghana’s primary products.
Progressive SHS
The renowned educationist, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the strong belief of the party’s free senior high school (SHS) needed to start progressively in order not to put others at a disadvantage.
“Our research showed, certain kinds of students went to day school. So that those who cannot afford boarding can begin with day school. That is how come we started putting up more schools — the E-blocks which had facilities like laboratories that even some universities did not have”.
“If you rush to implement same without putting in place the necessary structures, you will end up putting a lot of people at a disadvantage. So we decided that we will target and implement progressively Free SHS. We needed the books, teachers, laboratories, equipment, libraries,” she said.
Empowering women
One of the programs Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the party had put in place for women was the development of the girl-child, “finding ways to educate the girls, stay and return home peacefully.”
“We have plans to develop the girl-child to mature and become responsible citizen.
Part of the program is to ensure that, every girl-child would have access to sanitary towels in order not to break their school routine, and stay at home whenever they are menstruating.
“In some countries, governments have put funding of sanitary towels for girls in their national budget due to the seriousness of the situation,” she stressed.
Regarding women empowerment, the women activist met traders at maamobi market.
The queen mother of market took the opportunity to pray for the running mate and The NDC. She also appealed for the upgrading the maamobi facilities to a modern standard.
Prof. Naana appeal for peaceful and free-fair in the forthcoming election .she urged all the polling station agents to be vigilant at their various post.
She took the opportunity to introduce the MP Hon. Yussif Jajah ,who is seeking for his 2nd term as member of parliament for Ayawaso north Constituency by asking the crowd to vote wisely and protect the Ghanaian dream being champion by the NDC John Dramani Mahama administration
