Climate Communications and Local Governance – Africa’s President, Don Kofi Agor was present amongst important dignitaries at this year’s Climate Chance Europe Summit on 7th-8th March, 2022, in Nantes, France.
Climate Chance Association, brought together local governments, businesses and citizens at the heart of the European transition, the first major on-site climate summit since the COP in Glasgow.
The Summit, converged in Nantes all the European and French networks of local and regional authorities, which also provide an opportunity to show support and stand with Ukraine.
The Climate Chance Summit Europe 2022 is been held in synergy with the European Climate Conference organised by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (FPEU) at the same place and time, with the support of Nantes Métropole.

2,000 participants to attend, 40 speakers over 30 events taking place at the same time with high-level plenary sessions, round tables, workshops,
an opportunity to bring together the climate community in its diversity and to mobilise local actors at a key moment for the climate agenda
The year 2022 is an important year for the implementation of the European Green Deal, particularly with regard to its implementation the local level and the public policies to be deployed to achieve the objective of -55% of CO2 emissions by 2030 (Fit for 55). The French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (FPEU) is a key moment to make progress on this important climate agenda.
Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Alok Sharma, President of the COP26 and Yasmine Fouad, Egyptian Minister of Environment, Ministerial Coordinator and Special Envoy to COP27 were present in Nantes, as well as Barbara Pompili, Minister for Ecological Transition, and other European ministers and commissioners.
The summit brought together a large number of experts, well-known climate personalities and provide an opportunity for 2,000 local actors, local and regional authorities, businesses, researchers and citizens, to dialogue with high-level representatives of the Member States of the European Union and the European Commission, who came to attend the European Climate Conference of the FPEU, and to formulate opinions and proposals.The meeting equally balanced both mitigation and adaptation agendas.
The Summit also discussed Europe’s international action on climate change, particularly in terms of Europe’s cooperation with Africa.
The President of CCLG-Africa, Kofi Don-Agor had the opportunity to meet with some European climate change activist and Climate Chance Association to exchange ideas of dealing with the effects of climate change in Africa and how to communicate effectively at the local level and also forster partnership and Collaboration with Climate Chance Association.
A unique opportunity brought to light priorities and common proposals from (local authorities, businesses, NGOs) on the implementation of local climate actions
Interactive workshops and roundtables brought together high-level experts and field actors.
The event was based on the analyses of the Climate Chance Observatory. The Summit will be an opportunity to highlight the main trends of the Global Synthesis Report on local climate action 2022, including the main cooperation initiatives of cities and regions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
